NFL Draft 2018 rumors: Dallas Cowboys to trade up this year?

The National Football League (NFL) Draft for 2018 is months away, and teams are finalizing their strategies for the season. Rumors of the Dallas Cowboys possibly trading up this year circulate.

The strategy of the Cowboys this year is centered on making their offense "Dak-friendly," which sports enthusiasts say, should have been their strategy from the beginning of 2017. This only became their priority after Tyron Smith was injured last year. Late as it may be, the Cowboys might be looking to trade up for a spot in the top ten picks to bolster their team.

The Dallas Cowboys are in a decent position this year with their compensatory picks, although being at 19th place in the overall picks, they might miss the opportunities for players in high demand.

In terms of offense, Calvin Ridley remains a favorite. He is the highest prospect for this year predicted to be drafted between the sixth and 16th picks. Ridley holds a record of 224 passes caught for 2,781 yards, with 19 touchdowns. Brett Toth is also a good choice for the Cowboys for his offensive tackles.

With their left guard currently open to Chaz Green at the starting lineup, the Cowboys are in bad need of defensive reinforcement. This may prompt the team to target players such as Bradley Chubb, Roquan Smith, or Minkah Fitzpatrick for their picks. Maurice Hurst also remains a strong pick for the Cowboys for his overall defensive ability and being the best in his class for this draft. Andre Smith is also a predicted choice for his all-around capability, both offensive and defensive.

Trading up to get defensive picks rather than offensive picks is not common, but with the number of picks they hold for this draft, it only makes sense that they do. They would fare better at higher placements and getting strong picks for either their defense or a "Dak-friendly" offense, rather than passing it up and staying at 19th overall pick.
