The expectations are high for Samsung's next flagship smartphone, given the rave reviews received by the Galaxy S8 and S8+ handsets. While the upcoming Galaxy S9 and S9+ are likely to get the same Infinity display that put their predecessors on the map, the 2018 flagships are expected to boast a premium feature of its own. If the recently launched Samsung device would be any indication, the S9's defining specs will be a powerful camera.

As reported by Forbes, Samsung officially unveiled the W2018 smartphone in Xiamen, China last week, which is another entry to the W series known for their signature clamshell foldable design. The W2018 can capture anyone's attention with the mix of modern flagship features and early flip-phone aesthetics, although the smartphone's magic lies with the camera lens that include a stunning f/1.5 aperture.

A smartphone camera with f/1.5 aperture not only offers the brightest and the most crystal-clear image snaps, it also gives users an access to a variable aperture. This means that the camera setup can limit the lens down to f/2.4 aperture under low-light environment. With this, the image can be placed into better focus and increase its sharpness and contrast, all at the same time. If ever this lens feature arrives in the Samsung Galaxy S9 next year, this addition will be much welcomed.

Meanwhile, rumors are rife that the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ will introduce an interesting color variant. According to the sources of Sam Mobile, the South Korean tech giant is deciding whether to add the purple option upon the launch of the next flagship handset. If this plan comes into fruition, the purple variant will join the standard black, gold, and blue colors. The purple option was also rumored prior to the unveiling of Samsung Galaxy S8 last March, but such color variant never materialized.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ are expected to be announced a bit earlier than usual next year. From the usual March unveiling, the 2018 flagship smartphones are likely to appear as early as January.
