Samsung has yet to reveal the details regarding its 2018 flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus. Rumors are rife that the S8 successor will be showcased at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona next month, although recent reports have already spilled some vital information about the handset's features.

ET News obtained some fresh information about the Samsung Galaxy S9, and it appears that the South Korean tech firm has more surprises in store for the users. For one, the company is said to introduce another first in the smartphone industry when it comes to screen technology, which is the Y-OCTA or Youm On-Cell Touch AMOLED display.

The Y-OCTA technology will reportedly allow Samsung to embed the touch sensor right under the flexible OLED panel. With this, the upcoming Galaxy S9 will be lighter and thinner even with more advanced screen specs. Another advantage in using the Y-OCTA in the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus is that the touchscreen display will be even more responsive with very minimal lag expected.

Meanwhile, the 2018 Samsung flagships will also highlight the new SLP or Substrate-Like PCB main circuit boards. According to Forbes, this circuit technique is similar to the circuit miniaturization used by Apple in the iPhone X, where the Cupertino-based company was able to create more space inside the phone. At this point, it is uncertain if the Galaxy S9 will use the extra space to include batteries with bigger capacity. Unfortunately, it is not expected that Samsung will feature a battery boost for its next flagship.

Speaking of batteries, Metro UK reported that Samsung is sticking with 3,000 mAh battery for the Samsung Galaxy S9. This detail was supplied by the Brazilian telecom company Anatel, suggesting that the upcoming phone will have the same battery life as the Galaxy S8. Still, there is hope that the S9 will have power efficiency capabilities like additional hardware components and software improvements to make the battery last longer throughout the day.
