Samsung Galaxy S9 news: Samsung's next flagship will have the traditional 3.5-mm headphone jack

The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S9 may not ditch the traditional 3.5-mm audio headphone jack for the all-in-one USB-C port.

It seems that Samsung is not ready yet to follow Apple's move of ditching the headphone jack for their devices. In a leaked photo of the alleged Samsung Galaxy S9's USB-C flex cable, it can be seen that the port of the traditional 3.5mm headphone jack will still be available.

More smartphone makers have recently let go of the traditional 3.5-mm headphone jack, such as Apple with their iPhone 7/8/X, Motorola with their Moto Z2 Force, HTC with their U11, and most recently, Google with their Pixel 2 devices. All of these companies have switched to using the all-in-one USB-C port that can be used for charging, data transfer, and listening to audio through an adapter.

For most users, phones with no headphone jack are not that impressive because not all have Bluetooth headphones, and if they do, they usually run out of battery in just a few hours of heavy usage. Additionally, users don't want to spend more money on earphones than they do with their smartphones.

Samsung keeping the headphone jack for the upcoming Galaxy S9 will be more likely since the South Korean tech giant has always been more consumer-oriented.

In more Samsung Galaxy S9 rumors, Bloomberg reports that the South Korean tech giant may reveal their next flagship in as early as late February 2018. The device may also be released the following month in March.

The Galaxy S9 is rumored to sport the same design as its predecessor, the Galaxy S8, with a 5.8-inch super active-matrix organic light-emitting diode (AMOLED) display with 1440 x 2960 resolution. If the S9 will have a variant, it may follow the S8 Plus with a 6.2-inch display.

Design renders for the device also suggest that the fingerprint scanner will be moved below the device's camera as opposed to the one on the S8, which was located beside the camera.

All of these, however, are still subject to change. More Samsung Galaxy S9 new will be revealed for the coming months.
