Samsung Galaxy Note 8 release date, specs update 2016: Phablet's model number leaked; bezel-less display expected?

While some consumers are still reeling from the entire Samsung Galaxy Note 7 exploding battery issues, Samsung has apparently already put the entire thing behind them as they are now reportedly trying to come up with a spectacular new lineup for 2017. Several reports have previously speculated that the company may be ending the "Note" line of phablet smartphones altogether, but this apparently is not the case as new reports have revealed that Samsung is now busy developing its brand new Note flagship, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.

The brand new reports cited their claims from a recent tweet by infamous tipster, Evan Blass. The renowned tipster has apparently leaked the alleged model number for the new Note device, which is SM-N950.

Some of the more keen-eyed users might notice that the company skipped an entire number in the labeling of their new model, but this boils down to a mere superstition more than anything else. The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 model was designated with the SM-N930 model number, which means that Samsung skipped SM-N940 altogether, simply because the number 4 is considered to be bad luck in Korea.

As for the upcoming device itself, there have been already a lot of rumors flying around which tried to predict its possible features and specifications. Most of the reports claimed that the new Galaxy Note 8, as well as the new Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus models, will likely be coming with an edge-to-edge display that will occupy nearly 90 percent of the screen's surface area.

A similar feature is of course also expected on Apple's upcoming new iPhone, the Apple iPhone 8. The brand new screen design will certainly be an attractive proposition for consumers, as the recently released limited edition Xiaomi Mi Mix had revealed.

While Xiaomi's limited-release device is considered to be just a proof of concept for the new display technology, Samsung will likely be the first one to release a commercially available device with a bezel-less display if they should choose to apply the technology on their next generation devices.
