Samsung Galaxy J8 rumors: New smartphone's specs leaked through cross-platform processors

The Samsung Galaxy J8's latest leaks show that it will have similar specs to the Samsung Galaxy J7 Pro. Samsung website

Samsung's Galaxy J series is well-known for its affordability compared to its other model lines such as the Note. Recent leaks show the possible specs of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy J8.

The reported leaks were first seen in Geekbench and GFXbench's databases that have cross-platform processor benchmarks. According to the listings from the two websites, the Samsung Galaxy J8 sports the model name SM-720F, which is close to the Samsung J7's SM-700F. This close resemblance is why it was speculated to be the upcoming J8.

As seen in the databases, the smartphone will presumably boast a 5.5-inch display to go along with a 720 x 1280 pixel resolution, all similar to J7's specs.

Other features include a fingerprint scanner that recognizes up to five fingerprints. As for the central processing unit (CPU), the listing shows it will use an octa-core CPU that runs at 1.5 gigahertz to go along with a Samsung Exynos 7885 chipset.

As for the memory and storage, the J8 is expected to have an internal storage of 32 GB with a 3.6 GB memory. Also, it will only have one SIM card slot.

The smartphone's camera specs are also posted on Geekbench and GFXbench. The front camera will have seven megapixels while the back will sport 12, offering the standard high-quality images that Samsung is known for.

Lastly, the databases show that the J8 will be powered by the Android 8.0 Oreo, a faster and more powerful software for Android users.

Samsung has been relatively quiet during the CES 2018  event in Las Vegas earlier this month. Only rumors of the Galaxy X and news of the S9's launch made a buzz during the event.

Still, potential buyers of the J8 can expect more details at the Mobile World Congress (MWC), where Samsung S9 is scheduled to launch. MWC will take place from Feb. 26 to March 1.
