This year's "Royal Rumble" from World Wrestling Entertainment is just a few hours away, as enthusiasts ready their predictions and prepare for the event. This year's event is the first ever to feature a 30-woman Royal Rumble match. Here is a rundown on the matches and events slated for "Royal Rumble 2018."
The highlight of the night and the main event is the 30-Man Royal Rumble. This is the match that the series was built upon and one of the most iconic events in wrestling history. Contenders will compete in an over-the-top match, where the last remaining contestant inside the ring wins. Favorites Roman Reigns, Shinsuke Nakamura, and John Cena are currently leading the odds.
The lady wrestling stars are not to be left behind. The WWE will hold the first ever Women's Royal Rumble match this year, with female pride inciting much hype over the event. Contenders will again compete in an over-the-top match, with the last contestant in the ring declared winner. Fan favorite Ronda Rousey has sadly confirmed she will not be participating. Stephanie McMahon will be reporting ringside for commentary.
The event will also feature title matches.
RAW formally announced the match between wrestlers Brock Lesnar, Braun Strowman, and Kane for the Universal Championship title. They will compete in a three-way-versus match. The past UFC Champion, Lesnar, is favored to win to proceed against a match with Reigns in RAW, although he faces a tough time in the ring with the presence of Kane.
Wrestler A.J. Styles will face pair Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn for the WWE Championship title. They will compete in a one-versus-two handicap match. The match was originally proposed by General Manager Daniel Bryan and is likely to be overshadowed by the tensions between Bryan and Commissioner Vince McMahon.
Meanwhile, The Usos will compete against the duo Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin for the SmackDown Tag Team Championship. The match has a long history behind it, as these competitors have faced each other in the past. They will compete in a best-of-three-falls handicap match.
"Royal Rumble 2018" will broadcast live from the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia at this Sunday, Jan. 28, at 7 p.m. EST, with a kick-off show two hours prior, at 5 p.m.
