"Riverdale" season 2 will return with explosive scenes involving the show's beloved cast. Spoilers reveal that Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) will be facing some challenging experiences. Meanwhile, Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) will be dealing with different threats.

Betty will experience more emotional turmoil with her family as the midseason returns. Her mother, Alice Cooper (Madchen Amick), will see her long-lost son, whom she had given up for adoption after getting impregnated when she was young. Betty will also get to meet her brother Chic (Hard Denton).

There is a possibility that Betty will reunite with Jughead (Cole Sprouse) after their breakup in the midseason finale. Since Southside High will shut down, the pupils will be moving to Riverdale High. Because the two are already in the same school, Jughead will start to get closer to Betty again.

Meanwhile, Archie will have a fight with Veronica's (Camila Mendes) father Hiram Lodge (Mark Consuelos). Archie will try to get the approval of Veronica's father, and he will agree to have a face-off with Hiram. Hiram will test Archie's endurance by wrestling in the school gym. The ex-con will tell Archie that he always wins as he holds Archie in a headlock.

Aside from Hiram, Archie will also be dealing with Veronica's old friend, Nick St. Clair (Graham Phillips) who will be back in town to taunt him. Nick will call Archie as "a small-town hick" who is in a "deep shark-infested water." He will be staying in town for some time, and it appears that he knows some of the secrets of Hiram.

Show creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa previously told Entertainment Weekly that the second season will focus more on stories about school, relationships, and friendships. But there will still be plenty of dark mystery. Aguirre-Sacasa said that the "pulpy noir crime element" will still be featured as well as the "resurgence of high school hijinks."

"Riverdale" season 2 will air on Wednesday, Jan. 17, at 8 p.m. EDT on The CW.
