"Rick and Morty" season 3 is expected to premiere later this year, but the lack of updates has fans worried that the new season might not make it by December.

The upcoming season will be longer than the past seasons since there will be 14 episodes that would make up this installment. The previous season had 10 while the first one had 11 episodes.

The addition in episodes suggests that "Rick and Morty" season 3 will take longer to arrive. For reference, the second season premiered 15 months after the first season ended.

The writing duties for "Rick and Morty" season 3 began as early as November last year. By February, voice recording was already underway. However, if they work at the same pace as the previous season, a 2016 premiere could be a long shot.

However, creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland themselves were the ones who said that a year-end launch is possible and that fans can count on them doing their best to keep their word.

Before viewers grow more worried about a delay, writer Mike Mahan appeased fans on Twitter, saying "Just relax- it's our best season and worth the wait. Greatness takes time."

Many are okay with the cast and crew taking their time to put "Rick and Morty" season 3 together. After all, it will be much better to wait a bit longer for a stellar run than wait shortly for a lackluster one.

"Rick and Morty" season 3 is said to be set with a darker in tone. The second season ended with Rick behind bars with basically no means to get out. Such premise will definitely be at play in the new season.

Meanwhile, Spencer Grammer, the voice Rick's granddaughter, Summer, shared a bit of information on what to expect of the characters in the new season.

"If you like season 2 and how the depth of the characters has evolved, you're gonna like season 3 even more cause we go even deeper," she revealed to Digital Trends while being coy.
