There is usually a time of year where networks decide which shows to continue and which ones to cancel. Sometimes, this happens a lot earlier, even before a season has aired. In the case of "Ray Donovan," fans of the show will be happy to know that not only is the show renewed for a sixth season, but the sixth season will also take place in another location.

Showtime made the announcement a few days ago, ahead of the fifth season finale. Season 6 will be made up of 12 episodes, and after five seasons in Los Angeles, production will move to the East Coast in New York City.

According to showrunner David Hollander, the move to New York is exciting in the creative aspects. The new location will provide new challenges for the titular character, played by Liev Schreiber, and will therefore bring new opportunities for everyone in the production. Hollander goes on to explain that Ray originally came to Los Angeles in order to build a life for himself and for his family. However, his family is no longer there, and Ray's career has shifted and now he is looking to build his life again. Ray thinks he is only going to New York to help his daughter, but he will discover that he is going to the Big Apple to help himself.

In an interview with TV Line, when asked about whether or not they plan on addressing Ray's further descent into alcoholism in the upcoming season, Hollander revealed that they do not have any plans to send him to that, at least just yet. His drinking problem was first addressed during the fourth season, when Ray stopped drinking and referenced that he sought help for it and unfortunately, his sobriety did not last long.

"Ray Donovan" season 6 does not have an official release date yet.
