Qualcomm has recently released the Snapdragon 660 mobile platform. Although it is considered a midrange chip, it holds impressive features that can easily match up to Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820.

According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 660 enables users to take brilliant photos and videos as it supports 4K video capture and playback, and up to 16 MP + 16 MP for dual cameras. The chip is equipped with the Qualcomm Hexagon 680 DSP, which supports higher camera performance.

The platform also possesses multiple connectivity features that work together to make the user's data and voice experience consistent. It sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon X12 LTE modem, which supports download speeds of up to 600 Mbps. The Snapdragon 660 also supports MU-MIMO WiFi and Bluetooth 5.

In the promotional video released by Qualcomm, it boasts that with the Snapdragon 660, graphics and performance are 30 percent faster and multimedia and gaming are more advanced. With the Qualcomm EcoPix display technology, improved Qualcomm TruPalette technology, and the Qualcomm Aqstic audio codec, users will surely have high-definition multimedia experience. Connection is two times faster, as stated in the snippet. The promo also showcases the platform's smooth optical zoom and built-in intelligence.

However, what is considered to be the best feature of the Snapdragon 660, according to The Verge, is that it can stretch battery life by optimizing a device's performance. Users should see 50–75 percent lower power consumption for a number of location services. On the other hand, the power consumption for downloads via WiFi is down 60 percent on the new chip, compared to the last generation.

With the Snapdragon 660's Qualcomm All-Ways Aware technology, which is a sensor designed to continually collect data without consuming too much battery life, as well as the Qualcomm Quick Charge 4, which is designed to make 5 minutes of charging power up to 5 hours of voice calls and make 15 minutes of charging to boost the phone's battery life to nearly 50 percent, mobile users will no longer be worrying about their phones dying during emergencies.

The Snapdragon 660 is already available, and as per Ars Technica, devices that will sport the chip are expected to come out soon.
