"Pokémon Ultra Sun" and "Pokémon Ultra Moon" are coming to the Nintendo 3DS on Nov. 17. The console has been the game's home since "Pokémon X" and "Pokémon Y" was released in 2013. After several years, however, the franchise is finally saying goodbye to the console. "Pokémon Ultra Sun" and "Pokémon Ultra Moon" will be the final "Pokémon" games for the 3DS.

In an interview with IGN, Game Freak director Shigeru Omori explained that when they first set out to make the "Pokémon" games on the 3DS, they wanted to push the boundaries of the console and do amazing things. They managed to do all that but realized there was still room for improvement.

When the developer made "Pokémon Sun" and "Pokémon Moon," they redesigned the entire system, and according to Omori, they managed to push the 3DS "even further to what we thought was the most we could draw out of it."

Shigeru mentioned that they felt they had reached the limits of the 3DS and it was time to move on.

Meanwhile, fans of the "Pokémon" franchise can rest easy knowing that a game is in the works for the Nintendo Switch. There aren't many details yet, but the announcement was made during Nintendo's presentation at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in June.

"Pokémon Ultra Sun" and "Pokémon Ultra Moon" will bring players back to the islands of Alola. Characters and Pokémon from the first "Sun and Moon" games will be returning to aid the players in their tasks, but this time around, the games will focus on a darker alternate story.

The story trailer came out earlier in October and featured the moon getting swallowed up by darkness. What follows is dramatic music in the background as the player character learns about the strange phenomenon from the characters. Darkness is encroaching upon the island and it is up to the player to get to the bottom of things and combat the upcoming threat alongside Pokémon and friends.
