The newest Pokemon movie "Pokemon: I Choose You" premiered in Japan earlier in July 2017. The Western theatrical release will take place on Nov. 5 and 6. These screenings will be limited and the movie will only be shown once each day.

However, those who purchase tickets will receive limited freebies: a special trading card and a code for the 3DS that will unlock, not only a Pikachu sporting Ash's cap, but a special in-game event for the upcoming "Pokemon: Ultra Sun" and "Pokemon: Ultra Moon" games.

"Pokemon" first aired 20 years ago on April 1, 1997. The story followed a 10-year-old boy named Ash who dreamed of one day becoming a Pokemon master. On his tenth birthday, he heads to the professor's lab to pick up his first Pokemon, a grumpy Pikachu who wanted nothing to do with him. The first few moments of the show featured Pikachu electrocuting Ash and outright refusing to obey orders and this trend continued until a harrowing face-off against a flock of angry Spearows. The encounter ended with Ash shielding Pikachu with his body and with Pikachu realizing that Ash was not such a bad guy.

"Pokemon: I Choose You" will be a loose retelling of Ash and Pikachu's adventures in the Kanto region. This will be a nostalgic movie for long-time fans of the Pokemon franchise. However, according to Polygon and the latest movie trailer posted on the Official Pokemon YouTube channel, there will be some major changes.

Brock and Misty, Ash's original companions from the first season, will no longer be traveling with him. Instead, the two are replaced with fresh faces, a girl with a Piplup and a boy with a Lucario — both Pokemon from future generations. The trailer also showed other Pokemon from different games and future seasons, confirming that this latest movie, although set in the Kanto region, would not be limiting Pokemon to those only from the first season.
