'PlayerUnknown's Battleground' update: Xbox One version surpasses four million players

It is no secret that "PlayerUnknown's Battleground" (PUBG) is one of the hottest games available on PC right now, often peaking at millions of players active all at the same time, but it seems the Xbox One port of the game is starting to make an impact on that platform as well.

Recently announced on the official Xbox blog, Sammie Kang, Lead Community Manager of the PUBG Corporation, talked about how "PUBG" has grown to over four million players on Xbox One.

"Today we're excited to announce another milestone for PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG): the community of players on console has now grown to over 4M players!" she wrote.

She added, "We're thrilled to see the community continue to grow and have been inspired by everyone's enthusiasm for the game – with your ongoing support and feedback we will continue to evolve PUBG and create the best experience for Xbox players."

It should be noted that, while four million is impressive and actually beats the highest concurrent count of the PC version, it does not necessarily translate to copies sold. Multiple accounts can access a single game on any console, so there is a chance that some of these numbers are multiple people sharing the same copy.

However, it is still a very good indicator of how fast the game is growing, especially since "PUBG" on Xbox One hit three million players earlier this month, which means they gained about a million players in a little over two weeks.

To celebrate this occasion, the PUBG Corporation is giving out 30,000 Battle Points (BP) to every player who has created a character in "PUBG" before Jan. 31. BP is the in-game currency in PUBG that allows players to purchase cosmetic loot boxes to customize their character.

Kang ended the announcement with a message thanking the players for their support and a promise to continue delivering updates to the Xbox One version of the game based on player feedback.
