The reviews are out for the new movie "Phantom Thread," which received exceptional feedback from critics who generally praised the dramatic period piece and Daniel Day-Lewis's satisfying performance as renowned dressmaker Reynolds Woodcock.

The romance-drama, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, received an outstanding 90 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is a site that aggregates review scores from various entertainment outlets. Here are what some of the reviewers had to say.

Christopher Orr from The Atlantic expressed, "Reynolds is the perfect role for Day-Lewis, who is likewise famous both for his obsessive meticulousness and for the lengthy sabbaticals he has used to recharge between films."

Then, John Urbancich from Your Movies stated, "Writer/director Paul Thomas Anderson weaves an elegant and often humorous treatise on manipulation and manners in the high-end province of fashion design. It also features one last onscreen performance by the intense Daniel Day-Lewis."

Finally, Bill Goodykoontz from the Arizona Republic wrote, "The movie takes a kind of gothic turn by degrees - it sneaks up on you and before you know it, it's arrived. And it's immensely satisfying."

The story is set in the 1950's in post-war London and centers on the life of the famous tailor Reynolds. Together with his sister Cyril (Lesley Manville), they dress people in high society including royalty, heiresses, socialites, movie stars, and debutantes. The brother-sister team is at the center of British fashion where nothing can seemingly take them down a notch.

However, a young and strong-willed woman named Alma (Vicky Krieps) enters the life of Reynolds, and he slowly falls for her, which somewhat disrupts his usual routines as a dressmaker. Moviegoers have to watch the noteworthy film to see what will be the outcome of Alma's presence in his busy and glamorous life.

"Phantom Thread" is set to premiere on Friday, Jan 19, in theaters nationwide.
