Game developer Atlus recently announced that the role-playing video game "Persona 5" reached a milestone with 2 million sold copies worldwide. With this achievement, Atlus USA CEO Naoto Hiraoka released a statement for the fans of the game.

According to Hiraoka, this is an incredible year for Atlus since their Japanese game is doing well in the west. He added that the company is in the middle of a tremendous growth not just in Japan but in different countries abroad, too.

He pointed out that the sales of "Persona 5" represents a new level of expectation for fans of RPG. Hiraoka also said that Atlus is looking forward to delivering more games in 2018. Aside from Hiraoka, "Persona" series character designer Shigenori Soejima also thanked fans on Twitter.

Aside from that, "Persona 5" was also noticed at this year's Game Awards. The game received a total of four nominations for Game of the Year, Best Art Direction, Best Music, and Best Role-Playing Game. The Game Awards is set to air on Dec. 7 where this year's winners will be revealed.

Many players love the game because of its balance between everyday life experience. This is the difference between "Persona 5" with its previous titles since "Persona 3 and 4" were focused on high school life, social links, and other enjoyable experiences.

The game takes place in Tokyo, which follows the adventures of a protagonist who goes to a fictional school, the Shujin Academy. While in school, the protagonist and other students awaken their Persona powers. In the long run, they became masked vigilantes that are called the "Phantom Thieves of Hearts." The team battles with supernatural enemies using their psyche called Personas.

"Persona 5" is the sixth installment in the "Persona" series. It was published by Atlus in Japan and North America, while Deep Silver published the game in Europe and Australia. It was first released in Japan in September 2016, and worldwide in April 2017. The game is currently available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3.
