According to reports, a preview of "Counterpart" will be first seen after the finale of the Diana Galbadon-based drama. This way, more people will get a chance to see the sneak peek of the new Starz show. The outlet added that it would be an effective way to promote the series since the season 3 premiere of "Outlander" garnered 2.09 million viewers.
The upcoming thriller series stars J.K. Simmons who will play as Howard Silk. Other cast members include Olivia Williams, Harry Lloyd, and Nicholas Pinnock. The synopsis of the premiere episode says that Howard is "a lowly cog in the bureaucratic machinery of a Berlin-based United Nations spy agency."
He discovers that his organization safeguards the secret of a crossing into a parallel dimension. After knowing this, he is thrust into a shadow world of intrigue, danger, and double cross. The synopsis continues that "the only man he can trust is his near-identical counterpart from this parallel world."
CarterMatt notes that Starz is using "Outlander" as a launching pad since it has much faith in the series. This is also a guarantee that the series will be renewed for a fifth season. The television network also wants to keep its subscribers who have been following the Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan series.
Although the two shows have different concepts, both have interesting storylines. "Outlander" is about time travel, while "Counterpart" is about having a version of yourself from a parallel universe. Despite the difference, Starz is hoping to retain its viewers while "Outlander" is on hiatus until the next season.
"Counterpart" will premiere on Jan. 21 at 8 p.m. EST on Starz. Meanwhile, the "Outlander" season 3 finale is set to air on Dec. 10 at 8 p.m. on Starz.
