Professional baseball catcher Brian McCann is being considered to be traded by the New York Yankees before August 1 leap- year date deadline, according to an article by Today's Knuckleball.
McCann is reportedly doing average and is hitting .235/.334/.430 this season with 15 home runs and 41 RBI in 82 games. In an article of ESPN, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman commented about the 32-year-old catcher's latest performance. "This year, we have not been getting what we expected. He is better than this," Cashman said.
Austin Romine, who is hitting .265/.277/.434 with three home runs and 18 RBI in 39 games, would have to shoulder McCann's spot and work with top catching prospect Gary Sanchez, who is hitting 286/.333/.478 with 10 home runs.
According to SB Nation Atlanta Braves McCann, as a veteran and also coming from Braves from 2005 to 2013, could help the team as they were lower in rank than the Yankees. Texas Rangers are also looking to add depth at catchers with Robinson Chirinos and Bobby Wilson.
But teams that will express interest have to wait for McCann's decision as the Yankees need to ask for an approval of a trade because of his full no-trade clause. He could waive for the no- trade clause but for now he said that he is focusing on winning games.
When asked about his reaction with regards to the trade rumors, he answered that he is not thinking about it. "I'm focusing on winning games here and I really haven't paid attention to what's been going on. The focus is not there. It's on winning ballgames for this club."
He further reiterated about his focus on the game and not on the rumors. "I haven't thought twice about it, I really haven't," McCann said. "We're grinding. We're trying to win ballgames, and that's what I'm trying to do. That's all I'm worried about now."
