Microsoft Surface Phone Andromeda release date, specs rumors: Company's first foldable device to appear at MWC 2018?

Rumors about the Surface Phone have been around for almost three years, and some Microsoft fans are now ready to give up their hopes for the first ever mobile device under the Surface label. Still, it migt be too early to declare that the Surface Phone is dead, given that the Redmond-based tech firm has yet to confirm its development. With more patent leaks of the Surface Phone, also known as the Andromeda, showing up on the internet, there is a chance that the public will see the much-awaited device soon.

While Microsoft has no new announcement made these past few months regarding its hardware lineup for 2018, there are speculations that the Surface Phone or Andromeda phone will make a surprise appearance at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 in Barcelona this February. The upcoming tech expo is where the biggest flagship devices of the year are unveiled, and the Surface Phone is likely to be among this year's highlights, according to Express UK.

Leaked renders and patent filings have been the only source of information regarding the Microsoft Surface Phone. If the rumors are anything to go by, these details will finally be confirmed at the MWC 2018, although the public should not get their hopes up that Microsoft will get to launch the Andromeda next month. The best thing that may happen in connection with the Surface Phone is a brief teaser of a foldable mobile device.

Regarding the possible features of the Surface Phone or Andromeda, recent patent documents leaked online talk about a mysterious Microsoft mobile device that can be folded into a widescreen tablet. The patent filing in question were submitted to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), although it is also possible that such a product never made it to the actual development stage.

As per MSPowerUser, a Microsoft engineer working with the Microsoft Asia Research Institute has spilled that the Surface Phone is already in the works, saying that the device is being tested with Cortana voice assistant. However, the statement has been changed after the report was first posted.
