Margot Robbie works on another Harley Quinn project

It has been known for some time that Margot Robbie is reprising her role as Harley Quinn in a number of projects, but it seems that there is another one in the works. This time, it is totally separate from the films that her character has yet to appear in.

The "Suicide Squad" actress revealed in an interview with MTV that she is working on her own Harley Quinn spinoff. The spinoff in particular will be separate from the currently developing films like the "Suicide Squad" sequel, "Gotham City Sirens," as well as the reported Harley and Joker-centric film. She shared that she has been developing it for two years already.

"I mean, it's hard to kind of talk about it, because all the stuff is kind of under lock and key. But I've been working on a separate spinoff Harley thing for a while now," said Robbie.

As to what project it is remains to be determined, but this does give room for speculation. It is likely that Robbie may be referring to the spinoff that was announced back in May of 2016. Robbie was set to produce the project as well that features the iconic DC comics character with several other female rogues and heroes, among them being Batgirl and the Birds of Prey.

Aside from the actress' other comments in the interview that support that theory, Robbie also hopes that Harley will form her own girl squad. She said that she wants to see her character with other women, and that even while they were filming "Suicide Squad," she thought that Harley needs her girlfriends.

"She needs other girls around her, because she loves that. You see that in the comics, she loves meeting people, any people. But she needs a little girl gang," said the actress.

Fans have long wondered if the speculated "Birds of Prey" spinoff was possible, or if it was merged into the "Gotham City Sirens" with David Ayer at the helm. The latter still has Christina Hodson penning the script, and it seems like Robbie is still very much interested in bringing this team-up to the big screen.

However, with all the projects in development that feature Harley Quinn, and Robbie saying that she will reprise the role next year, it does pose a question as to which film it would be.

Robbie explained that there is a lot going on at the moment. However, she is aware that everyone wants to get her character back on screen.
