Die-hard fans of the highly popular fantasy police procedural drama television series, "Lucifer" were apparently not the only ones enamored by the wily charms of Tom Ellis' character as the show itself has apparently grown to be quite a hit, brining in a double-digit increase in viewership since it was released. For this reason, Fox has now announced that they are ordering a full new season for the show, including an additional nine episodes.

The first season of "Lucifer" was aired back in January of this year and was comprised of just 13 episodes. Given the success of the show as seen by its particularly high ratings, Fox has now apparently decided to give its second season a total of 22 episodes.

The show is based on the comic book series of the same name written by Mike Carey through DC Comic's Vertigo. The comic was also a spin-off title of the comic book series, "The Sandman" by Neil Gaiman.

Ellis' portrayal of the Lord of Darkness was apparently a hit amongst fans as it created a sense of depth to the otherwise one-sided character. Fox Entertainment's President —David Madden — shares this sentiment and explained his reasoning behind their decision to renew the show and add more episodes.

"Lucifer continues to deliver, with great blasts of dark humor and ambitious storytelling. The show has turned out as a true wicked pleasure, the perfect companion to Gotham, and we couldn't be more pleased to order these nine other episodes," Madden mentioned in a statement.

The first season ended with quite a cliffhanger as Lucifer Morningstar and his brother Amenadiel (played by D.B. Woodside) were left with a problem on how to bring their "mother" back to Hell. Along with their predicament, Lucifer's interest in Detective Chloe Decker (played by Lauren German) also continues to go against his true nature as the ruler of Hell.

"Lucifer" season 2 is scheduled to air its seventh episode — titled "My Little Monkey" — next Monday, Nov. 7, at 9 p.m. ET on Fox.
