Last week, Andrew Kreisberg, executive producers of hit TV series such as Arrow," "Supergirl," "The Flash," and "DC's Legends of Tomorrow," has been suspended over sexual harassment allegations made by several former and current employees of Warner Bros. Due to this, several leading stars of these shows have spoken up, showing their support to all women victimized by sexual harassment.
In a lengthy Twitter post, Melissa Benoist, who plays the lead role in The CW's "Supergirl," mentioned she feels helpless sometimes as the industry she is a part of does not always support equality and feminism.
"I know I'm not the only one who feels this way," she added. "But I'm an optimist. I believe lasting change is possible, and when people are mistreated, they should have a safe forum to speak their truth and always be heard. And when people commit crimes or harass others they should always be held accountable — no matter what industry they work in or how much power they wield."
The same day, Emily Bett Rickards, who plays the role of Felicity Smoak on "Arrow," also posted a statement on Twitter. "To the men who committed harassment, who perpetuated rape culture, who turn a 'blind eye,' and complain about 'reverse sexism': you are weak and complicit," she posted.
"To the women who found the strength to speak up. To the women who supported one another and to the women finding their voice: You can. You are heroines," added Rickards.
Grant Gustin, who plays the lead role in "The Flash," was the latest to react to the whole controversy. His lengthy message was posted on Instagram, and he said that he is in awe of all women who have spoken up about being sexually harassed, and that their courage makes them the real superheroes.
He has also vehemently said his stance about men abusing women physically and emotionally becoming a daily occurrence especially in his industry. Gustin added that he wants everyone to know that he hopes to be a better ally to all women, especially the victims, and that sexual harassment should not in any way be tolerated.
Variety initially reported Kreisberg's suspension over his alleged inappropriate sexual behavior and several sexual harassment claims by several former and current employees of Warner Bros. TV Group over the last few years.
Apparently, the victims didn't initially report Kreisberg's due to their fear of retaliation since Kreisberg holds an important position in the company. Kreisberg strongly denies all allegations set against him.
