A lot of Marvel fans are very excited about the upcoming release of the second season of Netflix's highly popular superhero television series, "Jessica Jones." While the show itself will not air anytime soon, fans of the series still want to know more about its production and how it will be presenting the complicated life of the character in the new episodes.
It was previously announced by series' creator Melissa Rosenberg that all of the 13 episodes for the second season will be directed by women directors. Rosenberg had revealed this fact during the recently held Transforming Hollywood - Diversifying Entertainment conference that took place at the University of South California's Anneberg School for Communication and Journalism.
Fans were, of course, surprised by her decision, with most quite happy about it as it could lead to more diversity within Hollywood. As it stands, among all of the directors for television shows created from 2015 to 2016, only 17 percent of them are female. Rosenberg is well aware of this fact, which is why it could have been the main reason for her decision.
In a recent interview with Rosenberg, the series' creator had revealed that she was actually just planning to prioritize female directors for the show's new season, but a colleague of hers then suggested the idea of having an all-female set of directors for the second season of "Jessica Jones."
The show's lead actress Krysten Ritter is reportedly very supportive of Rosenberg's decision.
Her co-star Rachael Taylor (who plays Patricia "Trish" Walker in the show) is also very supportive and had actually posted a tweet that reads, "Yes! More women directors please. Proud our Netflix/Marvel family are yet again leading the way!"
"Jessica Jones" Season 2 was announced by Netflix' COO Ted Sarandos to be coming out sometime in 2018 at the earliest, right after the release of "The Defenders" in 2017.
