iPhone 8 release date, specs rumors: Apple insider claims bigger, bezel-less OLED display

Current generation Apple iPhone Apple

As of the moment, it is still anybody's guess as to what Apple has planned for its next generation flagship smartphone, the iPhone 8. The name itself is still not even a certainty, as the next model could be an interim upgrade to its latest device, which could be called the iPhone 7s. However, several new reports have surfaced which hint at the possible changes that will be coming to the new device, including the company's suggested shift to organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display technology.

According to the latest reports, the next generation iPhone will likely be sporting a new OLED display. The shift to the newer and better display technology will be big news for fans as it would mean that the next iPhone will be the first flagship device from the company to sport the new technology. Apple has, of course, already slowly integrated the new OLED tech into some of their devices, including their new Apple Watch and the dynamic function OLED touch bar on the new MacBook Pro.

Speculations about the possible OLED display for the new iPhone are based on a recently published report from MacRumors, which cited analysts from Barclays Research who claimed to have gotten their information directly from Apple's supply chain during a recent trip to Asia. The report also revealed that the next iPhone will likely be sporting a borderless or bezel-less design that would translate into a much larger screen size without the need to increase the overall dimensions of the device.

By using up majority of the area on the front side of the device, the next iPhone is reportedly going to sport a 5-inch display for the standard model and a 5.8-inch display for the Plus variant. All of the sensors and the home button itself will reportedly be embedded into or under the display through the use of a new technique the company had patented.
