Infiniti has unveiled the Q Inspiration Concept ahead of its debut at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The sedan concept provides a preview of the luxury automaker's new design language.

The Q Inspiration Concept represents the next step in Infiniti's design direction, which will be seen in their upcoming flagship sedan. Based on the first image of the concept vehicle, the exterior will have a simple and fresh appearance with clear and concise lines.

"We aim to take traditional sedan architecture to its next stage of evolution. The Q Inspiration offers an alternative form; something more flowing in appearance and muscular in stance, with an unusually long and balanced cabin," said Karim Habibi, Infiniti executive design director.

The Q Inspiration Concept has a stretched-out silhouette with a shorter hood and an elongated body. The sloping roofline extends to the rear — possible hinting at a hatchback form for the production version of the concept vehicle. There is also a lot of glass on the side windows as well as on top. Ultimately, the Q Inspiration Concept's elongated body will translate to a cabin layout that is comfortable and spacious.

Infiniti also once again mentioned the introduction of advanced powertrains. In a previous teaser, Habib revealed that there will be a shift toward "smarter, more compact and less intrusive powertrains." The automaker has not revealed specific details but the teaser seems to hint at an electrified powertrain. This is also supported by the Q Inspiration Concept's rear, which does not have any tailpipes.

On the other hand, Infiniti may also feature a version of their new variable-compression engine. The automaker's 2.0-liter VC-Turbo engine — which debuted in the 2019 QX50 — comes with technology that optimizes power and fuel efficiency.

The Q Inspiration Concept will be revealed during Infiniti's press conference at the Detroit Motor Show on Monday, Jan. 15 at 12:35 p.m. EST.
