"Halo Wars 2" was supposed to be one of Microsoft's biggest releases for this year, but the software giant decided against it and opted for a February 2017 release instead in the spirit of "spreading the portfolio."

Speaking to Dual Shockers, Xbox marketing head Aaron Greenberg revealed that their holiday lineup is already full to capacity and they have more than enough games to put out later this year even without "Halo Wars 2."

"We did not need to force it into an already crowded holiday season, so to have Halo Wars 2 in February was a very deliberate decision about when that title made sense," he explained.

Without a doubt, Microsoft has a rich bunch of games set for release in the final quarter of the year. There is "Gears of War 4," "Forza Horizon 3," "ReCore," "Dead Rising 4" as well as "Battlefield 1" and "Titanfall 2."

"Scalebound" and "Crackdown 3" will join "Halo Wars 2" in a 2017 launch as well. However, the reason behind the delay of these titles is more about making sure they will be in the best possible form when they come out.

"As you go through that creative process, sometimes things happen fast, sometimes they take longer than you expect," Greenberg said.

"For us making the games great, making sure the stories are great, the graphics are great in these immersive experiences, is a priority," he went on to say.

Meanwhile, fans who want to learn more about "Halo Wars 2" can now download the Halo App for the Windows PC, which is billed as the "quickest and easiest way to find, download, and launch all Halo games that are available on Windows PCs."

Details about "Halo Wars 2" can be accessed there as well. The app will also bring the latest updates in the "Halo" universe as well as a hub for tricks and tips that will certainly unite the community.

The Halo app will be available for free on the Windows Store on Sept. 8. Read all the complete details about on Halo Waypoint.
