Gamespot just announced "Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice" as their eighth Best Game of 2017. The site has been releasing their top game picks since Tuesday, Dec. 12.

On Dec. 14, Gamespot named "Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice" as their eighth Best Game of 2017. The game is what developer Ninja Theory calls an "indie-AAA." According to the site, "Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice" forces players out of their comfort zone. Players control the character Senua, a Pict warrior in her adventure to Helheim to save her dead lover Dillion from the Norse goddess Hela.

Senua actually suffers from psychosis, a mental disorder that involves a loss of contact with reality. Senua believes that she is cursed and hears voices in her head that comments on her actions, which in turn makes Senua doubt herself in the process.

"Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice" mainly focuses on puzzle-solving, as well as occasional fights with feral tribesmen on her journey. Gamespot rates the game 8/10.

Gamespot previously named "NieR: Automata" as their 10th Best Game of 2017. The game is an open-world action role-playing game released by Square Enix for the PS4 and PC.

On the other hand, "What Remains of Edith Finch" took Gamespot's ninth Best Game of 2017. Gamespot cited the game's engrossing story which makes the game more compelling. "What Remains of Edith Finch" lets player control Edith Finch and her past relatives as they live their last moments on earth. The game's unexpected twists will make players feel like they're reading a book rather than playing an actual game.

"Wolfenstein" sequel "Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus" took Gamespot's seventh spot on their list of 2017's Best Games. Gamespot cited the game's challenging combat gameplay, as well as its carefully balanced narrative that makes it a memorable experience to play.

Gamespot is expected to reveal their number one Best Game of 2017 on Thursday, Dec. 21.
