After some criticism, Disney has decided to pull out the "Frozen" short feature "Olaf's Frozen Adventure" from screenings of Disney-Pixar's latest movie "Coco."
According to Mashable, Disney has given an order to remove "Olaf's Frozen Adventure" from the theaters everywhere starting Friday, Dec. 8. This move will allow theaters to have more screenings of "Coco" every day.
Contrary to popular assumption, the new "Frozen" short film seems to be anything but a hit for the kids and parents who have watched "Coco."
"Olaf's Frozen Adventure" is actually twice as long compared to the usual Pixar shorts that are shown before every Disney-Pixar release. It helps to note that the usual shorts only last about four or five minutes before the main movie starts playing.
However, the "Frozen" short actually caused "Coco" to not start until 40 minutes after the scheduled screening time.
There are also some complaints that, since Pixar's traditional short films are standalone stories, "Olaf's Frozen Adventure" seems to be incredibly dependent on the popular 2013 "Frozen" movie. Those who have not seen it will then get restless and lose interest in the "Frozen" short. Some adults have also criticized the short itself to be a way to market the sequel to the animated hit movie, which will be shown in 2019.
Fortunately, even though "Olaf's Frozen Adventure" has mostly drawn criticism from audiences, "Coco" is very well-received. The new Disney-Pixar movie has the fourth highest Thanksgiving five-day opening weekend of all time, getting $50 million, following three other animated titles from Disney: "Toy Story 3" with $8 million back in 2010, "Moana" with $81 million last year, and "Frozen" with $93 million in 2013.
This December, "Coco" has brought in $28 million from over 3,987 locations. It is predicted that the film's box office total will go up to $110 million after the weekend.
"Coco" is now playing in theaters.
