Floyd Mayweather Sr., the father of undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr, is currently fighting a battle of his own as he faces a misdemeanor battery charge for assaulting a woman last September.
The incident took place in the parking lot of the T-Mobile arena after the mega fight between Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and Genady "GGG" Golovkin. Mayweather Sr. reportedly got into an argument with the woman which ended with him dragging the woman out of the car by her leg as she refused to leave the car.
A report by combat sports website Bloody Elbow stated that the police report stated that Mayweather Sr. then proceeded to hit the woman on the leg before leaving the scene. The 59-year-old woman had to be taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
An arrest warrant was issued for the elder Mayweather on January 16<sup>th, and he reportedly turned himself in and was processed on Wednesday at the Clark County Jail. He was then freed on a $1000 fine and will await his trial that could get him six months in Jail if proven guilty.
Mayweather Sr. entered a not guilty plea, and his representative told TMZ that the assault was allegedly the result of the woman "trying to extort money and she's angry because she's not getting the money from Floyd. It's not going the way she wants it to go."
If Mayweather is proven guilty this would not be the first time that he would be in prison. Before he was known as the man who would propel his son to boxing greatness, he was convicted in 1993 for allegedly smuggling cocaine in laundry detergent boxes as part of a drug ring. He was sentenced to five years in prison.
His son, Mayweather Jr., was also jailed for 90 days following a domestic battery incident in 2012.
