The town of Quahog and its residents will be celebrating another milestone as one of America's most beloved animated comedy shows reaches its 300<sup>th episode in 16 seasons.
"Family Guy" has been making millions of people laugh since 1999, and many have found themselves quite attached to the Griffin family despite their dysfunctional behaviour. Peter and the family have made quite the name for themselves with their trademark cutaway scenes that allow the show to deliver irreverent jokes and insults that can range from very subtle to just outright blunt.
The show's 300<sup>th episode will be airing this Sunday. Seth McFarlane, the show's creator and the one who provides the voice for various characters including Peter Griffin, recently revealed how he had no idea that the show would last this long.
"When I pitched this show, I had nothing to compare it to," he said during an interview with Access. "I didn't know any better than to think that it couldn't go this long."
The show, however, wasn't an overnight success. McFarlane had his fair share of ups and downs with running Family Guy, which includes the show being cancelled at one point, but was able to continue because of insistent demands from fans who wanted the show back; something that McFarlane remains thankful for up to this day.
"It's why I always put the audience before the critics. They got the power." He added.
One of the things that make Family Guy stand out is how it isn't afraid to poke fun at many famous personalities, and no one seems to be exempted. Many of the stars that have been the target of its humour taken offense, but according to McFarlane, the jabs have become a way for the show and its cast to make new friends, resulting in many big name actors taking part as special guests.
"Generally, what will happen is an actor would say, 'Hey, you made fun of me on Family Guy, you jerks, so why don't you have me on and let me do my own voice next time.'"
Characters from the show, namely Peter and Stewie Griffin, recently appeared in Late Night with Jimmy Kimmel to celebrate the show's accomplishment where the two displayed their trademark humour by hurling insults at the host.
