CCP Games has just released the latest expansion pack to its highly popular massively multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG), "Eve Online." With the release of the game's latest expansion, "Ascension," the developer has also now provided free access to the game, giving interested players the chance to jump into the science fiction world and play with hundreds of thousands of other players across the globe.

Ever since the game was released back in 2003, thousands of players have been waging war and colonizing the 5,000 star systems available within the game's single universe. However, the game itself has been out of reach by most players as some are not too keen on paying a monthly subscription fee to get into the game. Now that the game is free to access, the game's player base is expected to increase exponentially.

The brand new update will be putting characters into two different categories, basically separating paying members with new free access players. Characters in the Omega Clone category, which includes players who are currently active in the game, will have unlimited access to skill progression and training. Alpha Clone characters, on the other hand, will have some limitations, but will still get access to training specific skills like flying ships, mining, trading, and other skill categories.

Along with free access and the new player categories, the update brings with it a slew of new changes to the game's different systems as well as new features like Command Bursts, new Effect Generators for Titans, new ships, and mining fleets. New players will also be presented with a brand new introduction UI called "Inception." The new introduction features voiced mentors, UI help, and a new storyline with brand new environments.

Interested players can now get access to "Eve Online: Ascension" via Steam. Those who want a little bit of extra before they start their adventure can opt to get the $20 Core Starter Pack or the $50 Premium Edition.
