'Destiny 2' Eververse microstransaction system will get a massive overhaul according to update map released by Bungie

Bungie, developers of the online multiplayer game "Destiny 2," promised to communicate more with their players last November. Keeping true to that promise, they released the first ever update roadmap for the game. Some of the biggest changes will be affecting microtransactions and loot boxes offered in the game.

The loot box system of "Destiny 2" is called Eververse and it is there that players pay for items called engrams. There is random probability involved in obtaining items from these engrams, much like slot machine or gacha-type microtransactions in recent free-to-play games.

Prior to the update map, items in the Eververse can be obtained from the Eververse alone. Players can earn some engrams by just playing and participating in activities, but only up to a static amount.

But in the announced update, Bungie stated that they will be including Eververse-only engrams as rewards for player activity as well as removing the static amount limit for these engrams.

The upcoming updates will also include opportunities for players to win Bright Engrams and Event Engrams. It should be noted that one of the top criticisms of "Destiny 2" is that most players spend more time trying to gather Eververse items rather than actually playing the game.

Now that Bright and Event Engrams will be available through a gameplay path, the option to just play and participate in activities will be incentivized, as well.

In line with their promise of better transparency, Bungie stated that they will also let players know exactly what they are paying for. For instance, with random loot boxes, players may get a list of odds, in percentages, of items that they may obtain by purchasing the box.

In addition, the company will also offer more "direct purchase" options for "Destiny 2." This means that some shop items will not be randomized and players will get exactly what they paid for.
