'Criminal Minds' season 12 episode 7 spoilers: BAU backs Tara as she gets entangled in tonight's case

The BAU is suited up in "Criminal Minds" season 12 episode 7 promo still CBS

The Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) is taking on a personal case this week as one of their own gets tied up in the mystery in tonight's "Criminal Minds."

After quite a pivotal installment last week which finally explained what happened to Hotch (Thomas Gibson), the team is now looking at a peculiar case that involves Tara (Aisha Tyler) and her family. The episode titled "Mirror Image" sees the BAU member struggling with contacting her real sibling when a man comes to town claiming that he is her brother.

Putting a little bit of backstory into the narrative to make it more dimensional, the BAU members seem to know that the supposed imposter is someone who is quite sketchy. The promo clip for the episode shows the pretender to be very good at conning people as he continues to play the part of Tara's brother without blinking an eye. Tara's father is even brought in to have a face-to-face with the perpetrator who still forges on. Fortunately, the FBI profilers see through him and know that he is just playing Tara. What will be interesting here is how the team will handle the case fully knowing Tara's real brother is more likely being held somewhere.

This week's narrative seems to be aimed at establishing rapport within the team despite them being together for quite some time now as the revelation last week and Prentiss' (Paget Brewster) promotion to as the new unit chief is a lot to take in.

At one point, while Tara is briefing the former Interpol agent and Rossi (Joe Mantegna), the founding member of the BAU makes it clear that the team has her back. It is still unknown whether this case is tied to the season's overall arc with Mr. Scratch (Bodhi Elfman) still on the loose and haunting the team from the shadows.

The "Criminal Minds" installment is directed by the show's very own Mantegna and will air tonight, 9 p.m. ET on CBS.
