CBS has announced that the upcoming season of "Criminal Minds" will be pushed by an hour during Wednesdays.
A recently published article from TVLine reports that "Criminal Minds" will swap timeslots with another CBS primetime show, "Extant," which is set to premiere on Wednesday, July 22. The same article also reports that filming for season 11 of "Criminal Minds" has already began.
Aside from the show's usual cast, another regular was added for season 11. According to Entertainment Weekly, Aisha Tyler will was picked to play the role of Dr. Tara Lewis, who is a forensic psychologist that focuses on criminal cases. Dr. Lewis will be the new member of BAU and will be Dr. Spencer Reid's new romantic partner, if rumors were true.
In an interview with Digital Spy during the Monte Carlo TV Festival, Matthew Gray Gubler, the actor who plays Spencer Reid, disclosed his interest into the character's personal life. "It's always fun when the writer takes a magnifying glass to the characters' lives," Gubler replied when asked for his opinion about the new season focusing on the characters. "I'd love to delve more into his home life and his social life and to see his mother return and just to... kinda like... figure out what he does on weekends," he added.
Other members of the cast have also been busy promoting the coming season.
Joe Mantegna (David Rossi) and Esai Morales (Mateo Cruz) have recently gotten in touch with fans through Reddit's Ask Me Anything (AMA) session. Several hints regarding the casting for the much-awaited season were dropped during the Q&A.
"Well, there's been talk of — there's a chance Paget may make an appearance now and again. Eric our producer mentioned it in an interview that there's a possibility that Paget may return from time to time," Mantegna responded when asked if they can get Paget Brewster (Special Agent Emily Prentiss) back on the show.
During the AMA, Mantegna also teased that he'll be directing two episodes in season 11 and that he's going to bring in more personal stories into those episodes. The 67-year-old actor/director also noted that there's going be to more character development in the coming season. "I've been married three times, we've dealt with two of my wives so far, so there's a possibility you might find out more about wife number three," he concluded.
The pilot episode for "Criminal Minds" season 11 is set to air on Sept. 30.
