'Civilization VI' is now available for the iPad, is it worth the $60 price?

Firaxis' latest installment in its award-winning turn-based strategy franchise, "Civilization VI," has just been released for iPad.

One of the biggest turn-based strategy games has come to the iPad, mostly preserving features from the original game for the PC. The iPad port is done by Aspyr. These developers have already ported previous "Civilization" titles to mobile platforms before, and "Civilization VI" was their latest product to come into the Apple App Store.

Some features were cut from the original, but these were just cosmetic parts and not elements that actually affect gameplay.

For instance, in the iPad version, Leader screens are no longer animated. Also, there is no Strategic View for the maps anymore.

Other than these differences, the game is pretty much the same as the base game that was made for desktop computers.

It should be noted that "Civilization VI" for iPad only includes the base game and not the additional features added by downloadable content (DLC). The developers stated that they will be considering the implementation and availability of the DLCs in the future.

This is why some might think that the $60 price tag of "Civilization VI" for iPad may be too steep. Players can get the original PC version for less, and "Game of the Year" edition is available right now for $45.80 on Steam. The "Game of the Year" edition already includes the base game plus the DLCs, of course.

Granted, there is still incentive to buy "Civilization VI" for iPad because of mobility. Some may be itching to get the game on-the-go, and this game for iPad is a perfect way to pass the time between long rides, or when waiting, for example.

Interested buyers need not pay up front, though. The game can be installed without charge, and players can experience the "Civilization VI" port free for 60 turns. After that, the game will ask if players want to unlock the game completely, for which they will be charged the $60.
