CES 2018 news: Wireless Qi Chargers prominent at CES thanks to Apple iPhone X support

Thanks to Apple iPhone 8 and iPhone X supporting wireless charging, a lot of wireless chargers were showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Wireless charging is a fairly new technology, but most industry leaders already support the standard. Phones from companies like Samsung and LG have compatibility with what is known as Qi wireless charging technology.

So it is not surprising to see wireless chargers at CES. However, since iPhone 8 and iPhone X now support the standard, even more of the hardware were seen at the show.

Apple supporting the standard means that there will be an influx of new users looking to buy wireless chargers for their latest iPhones.

It also meant that the other charging method, PWA, may have to integrate wireless Qi charging on their devices to make them more attractive for iPhone users. This is exactly what the PowerMat company did, which promised that all of their future chargers will support Qi wireless charging.

And so at the CES, there were a lot of wireless chargers on display and they competed in different aspects. Wireless charging pads can take space in the office, bedroom, or the living room. So it is not enough that the chargers work great; aesthetics need to be considered, as well.

Unlike wired chargers, wireless chargers have to look good. It would be a bonus if a model's design fits a room perfectly like a piece of furniture and not some piece of hardware that unnecessarily stands out.

Some manufacturers have innovative design choices, indeed. iOttie's line of wireless chargers were wrapped with cloth. Belkin company's docks are shaped like disks and they come in pastel colors.

CES is an annual showcase of the latest advancements in technology. Every year, famous brands and electronics startups gather to show protoypes of new stuff they are working on.
