"Call of Duty: World War II" is an upcoming first-person shooter game published by Activision. It is the 14th main game in the "Call of Duty" franchise and doubles as an attempt to go back to the series' more grounded and historical roots.

"Call of Duty" first came out in 2003. It was a first-person shooter set in World War II, and the game revolved around warfare during the Second World War and the skirmishes between the allied forces and Nazis. The following games went with a similar trend, with "Call of Duty 2" and "Call of Duty 3" focusing on the same period.

It was not until "Call of Duty 4" that modern warfare was introduced into the franchise. Following "Call of Duty 4," the game strayed further away from its historical roots in favor of more futuristic and sci-fi-like aesthetics.

Weapons grew more and more high-tech, and in 2016, "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare" was released. Infinite Warfare took a more sci-fi approach to the games and fans were not happy. Fans did not want "Call of Duty" to turn into another space game.

The fans finally got what they wanted when "Call of Duty: WWII" was announced. Unlike the first few games before it, the latest addition to the franchise will not focus on futuristic gunfights or modern warfare. Instead, it will go back to the very beginning, the essence of the first "Call of Duty" game in 2003.

Players will be returning to the 1940's, old-timey weapons and all.

"Call of Duty: WWII" will be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The game will have three different modes for players to enjoy — campaign, multiplayer, and zombies.

Campaign Mode will follow the story of a young soldier who experiences combat for the first time on D-Day. Multiplayer Mode, on the other hand, will allow players to either face off against each other or complete missions together. Lastly, Zombie Mode is a co-operative mode that will have gamers teaming up to kill Nazi zombies.
