Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie latest news: Jolie says she tried to save marriage through the film 'By the Sea'

Fans were shocked when Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt separated back in 2016. Until now, many are hoping that the couple will eventually get back together. Jolie recently shared how she tried to save her marriage with her former husband through the film "By the Sea."

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter's podcast, "Awards Chatter," Jolie revealed that she made the project as a means to communicate with her husband. However, she did not succeed to achieve her goals in preserving their marriage.

"We had met working together and we worked together well. I wanted us to do some serious work together, I thought it would be a good way for us to communicate," she said. She also added that it worked in some ways and it taught them some things. But according to Jolie, there was "heaviness" within them while filming and it is not because of the movie.

"By the Sea" is the second project that the couple worked together. Their first movie was Mr. and Mrs. Smith in 2005 where they met and fell in love. Because of this, Jolie thought that they might need to work together again in order to rekindle their love for each other.

When asked why she wrote the movie, Jolie said that it was actually about something that they were dealing as a couple. She said that she is not sure why she wrote that exact piece. However, she considered it as a piece of art which is "healing" or "difficult."

The 2015 movie is a story about an embittered but beautiful American couple living in 1970s France. In the movie, Pitt is an alcoholic, while Jolie is miserable. The film, which was panned by critics, was written and directed by Jolie.

Pitt and Jolie are both candid about their separation. They share six kids -- Maddox, 16 years old, Pax, 13 years old, Zahara, 12 years old, Shiloh, 11 years old, and 9-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox.
