Xiaomi Mi 5 specs, features news: How does device stack up against Samsung's Galaxy S7?

Xiaomi Mi5 Xiaomi

The Xiaomi Mi5 has not made it yet to Western countries but many are awed by its specs, not to mention that it is also reasonably priced. For those who are planning to get their hands on an Android phone like the Samsung Galaxy S7, one might also want to take a look at the Mi5. They have the same processor.

The Xiaomi Mi5 has two variants, the Pro and standard. The Pro version is much closer to the Samsung Galaxy S7, in that both phones have the latest Qualcomm MSM8996, otherwise known as the Snapdragon 820 chip, also with the same clock speed. The GPU for the Mi5 Pro and S7 are also the same, the Adreno 530, and they both house 4GB of RAM and have Wi-Fi workable bands. The two phones offer fast connectivity and fast battery charging of their non-removable 3,000 mAh batteries.

These smartphones are almost of the same size. The 5.15-inch Mi5 and the 5.10-inch Galaxy S7 are both protected by Gorilla Glass 4. They are also loaded with the Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system. Their cameras can also take videos at 2160p@30fps, 1080p@30fps and 720p@120fps. Plus, both phones were unveiled at the recently held Mobile World Congress 2016. However, their similarities end there.

The Xiaomi Mi5 Pro costs US$415 while the Samsung Galaxy S7 is around US$650, and it's only just the beginning.

For the said price, the Xiaomi Mi5 comes with a 128GB internal storage, 16MP OIS main camera with dual-LED flash, while the front has a 4MP shooter. It also sports a USB Type-C 1.0 reversible connector. When it comes to the display screen, the Chinese-made phone offers an IPS LCD one with 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution with 428 ppi pixel density. However, it does not have a microSD slot.

On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy S7 comes either with 32GB or 64GB internal storage and is expandable up to 200GB via a dedicated microSD slot. The main camera is at 12MP with OIS and also offers LED flash while the front boasts a 5MP Auto HDR one. It also contains a microUSB v2.0 port.

When it comes to the screen, the G7 has the upper hand, with its Super AMOLED that offers a 1440 x 2560 screen resolution with 577 ppi pixel density. It is also IP68 certified, water and dust resistant. It also offers wireless charging and 115GB OneDrive storage. It also comes with Samsung Pay and an Always-On display feature.

For a little surprising info, the Xiaomi Mi5's AnTuTu Benchmark score is 142,084, while the Samsung Galaxy S7 score is 116,668, as Android Headline reported.
