WWE rumors 2016: rematch between Brock Lesnar and an old rival may be in the works

World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) is reportedly planning to stage a Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg rematch. The reports started following a "WWE 2K17" clip where The Beast challenged his rival.

"Hey Bill, you're next," Lesnar said in the video after his manager Paul Heyman introduced him. It simply appears to be a promotion for "WWE 2K17" pre-orders where Goldberg comes as bonus, but it is believed there is so much more.

While Lesnar still has the clip on his Twitter feed, WWE took it down, leading to speculation that a rematch between the two is being planned and was precipitately revealed in the clip.

Interestingly, Forbes spoke to a source who confirmed that WWE is indeed cooking up a possible confrontation between Lesnar and Goldberg to follow their infamous Wrestlemania XX bout.

WWE is reportedly trying to make it happen with Goldberg taking his turn in the war of words and responding to Lesnar's message via WWE SummerSlam 2016.

However, the site warns fans not to jump to conclusion and assume the rivals to duke it out at Wrestlemania 33 next year as the showdown is not set in stone yet.

If anything, it could simply be a marketing stunt to attract attention to "WWE 2K17." After all, Lesnar is the cover athlete while Goldberg comes in two versions as a pre-order bonus.

At the moment, Goldberg's involvement with WWE is through the game only, as he emphasized last month during his interview with 411Mania. Around that time, the topic of WWE draft was hot.

"If they want to extend an olive branch and pick up the phone, then I will make a comment on that once they do it. But prior to that, nothing's been done," Goldberg said at that time.

As for Lesnar, he will first take on Randy Orton at WWE SummerSlam 2016 for the main event. The affair will take place Sunday, Aug. 21 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
