The Redstone Build 14295 for Windows 10 rolled out on March 25 for the PC and supported mobile devices for Fast Ring Insider Preview members. It contains several fixes for both platforms. There are no new features added on the latest build.
Gabe Aul, Microsoft's vice president and head of the engineering systems team, made the announcement in one of his regular blog posts. He said that PC issues that got resolved with this build are:
- Freezing issue when attaching an Xbox One or Xbox 360 controller
- Signing in issue for Xbox app and several Xbox Live enabled apps
- Microsoft Edge's current tab getting refreshed when hitting the Caps Lock key when typing in a password
- A bug keeping Kaspersky Anti-Virus, Internet Security and Kaspersky Total Security Suite from working properly on Development Branch of Windows 10
Fixes for Windows 10 mobile were also implemented, including:
- Failure to bring back installed apps from a backup when restoring mobile devices back to Build 14291; a blank gray tile shows up on Start screen for the said apps; users can now perform a hard reset and restore from a backup.
- Users who experienced failed downloads of new languages and keyboard can now install them. A "reboot" option will pop-up as the final step; however, there are instances when this option does not show up. Mobile device owners must do a manual reboot via Update & Security> Phone update and choose restart. New languages and keyboard will be installed after this step.
Nevertheless, WindowsReport has stated that early adopters of the Preview Build 14295 are already experiencing several issues. A user with two Windows 10 machines does not receive the update on his desktop but the laptop does. Both have the same settings and none of the suggested solutions offered by fellow Insider Preview members worked.
Another user rolled back from Build 14291 to Build 14279 because of stability issues that kept pushing the much later build back to his machine. There is also no way of rejecting Build 14291. Luckily, the owner was able to download Build 14295; however, there were errors when installing it.
Other issues with Build 14295 include Microsoft Edge's extensions failing to work, Xbox controller issue was fixed but shows another problem concerning the NVIDIA GT 750 GPU, Safe mode not functioning properly and Settings app crashes when accessing and a few more.
Mobile devices are also not spared from issues stemming from the latest build. One user said that his Canada speech pack failed to download on a Lumia 640XL.
Several users are deeply concerned about the issues happening with their devices. It just does not stop anymore, which shouldn't be happening in the first place since Build 14295 is supposed to be a fix build and no additional features were included.
Many are also thinking of opting out of the Insider Preview program.
