'Warhammer 2: Total War' DLC 'Rise of the Tomb Kings' to be released on January 2018; new units inspired by Egyptian mythology to be added

Real-time tactics and turn-based strategy game "Total War: Warhammer 2" is getting a new expansion next year. The addition, called "Rise of the Tomb Kings," is inspired by Egyptian mythology and architecture.

Based on the trailer, the premise of the expansion starts with tomb raiders exploring the graves of rulers presumed long dead. However, instead of being dormant, the exploration leads to the rulers' — and their legion of minions' — awakening.

This is the basis of the new faction for the critically-acclaimed strategy game. There will be new Legendary Lords, new victory objectives, as well as race-specific mechanics, most of which will focus on the new units.

A slew of new units will be added, indeed. The trailer shows creatures of undeath that will rise from the ancient tombs, all with their armies and chariots, to boot.

There will be such horrors as the Tomb Scorpion and the Necrosphinx. There will also be that giant creature in the last bit of the trailer that shoots fire from its eyes — the Hierotitan.

However, game publisher Sega said that they did not add an actual story campaign to go with the expansion. Instead, they focused on adding new quest chains, skills, traits, and gear that conform nicely to the lore-rich world of Warhammer Fantasy.

A report from PC Gamer once noted that there are some gaps in the full map for the "Warhammer 2" Mortal Empires campaign. It turns out that some of these gaps are the locations for the "Rise of the Tomb Kings" expansion.

"Total War: Warhammer 2" is a strategy game first released in September of 2017. It is second in a planned trilogy of strategy games set in the fictional world of Warhammer Fantasy.

The "Rise of the Tomb Kings" expansion for "Total War: Warhammer 2" will cost $19 and will be available on Jan. 23 of next year.
