This month, Futuremask started presenting its latest virtual reality focused benchmark for the VRMark software called the VRMark Cyan Room benchmark. This tool tests graphics processing units based on their performance in virtual reality run using Direct X 12, and is in line with AMD's pursuit of higher virtual reality performance on its GPUs.

The results show that the Radeon RX Vega 64 and the Radeon RX Vega 56 perform well in the VRMark Cyan Room benchmark, outperforming both the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 and the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 Ti. The Radeon RX 580 also beat the GeForce 1060 in the tests.

In the graph above, the Radeon RX Vega 64 and the RX Vega 56 garnered the highest scores with 7,776 and 7,437 respectively. The GeForce GTX 1080 and the GeForce GTX 1070 Ti significantly lagged behind with scores of 6,437 and 5,950 respectively. The Radeon RX 580 also managed to outscore the GeForce GTX 1060 (6 GB) with 4,721 with the latter having scoring only 3,764.

The Radeon GPUs also managed to meet the key requirement for the latest VR headsets of at least 90 frames per second. The Radeon RX Vega 64 scored 170 frames per second, the Radeon RX Vega 56 scored 162 frames per second, and the Radeon RX 580 scored 103 frames per second. Out of all the GPUs tested in the VRMark Cyan Room, only the GeForce GTX 1060 (6 GB) did not reach the 90 frames per second mark with a score of 82.

It should be noted, however, that Nvidia's GeForce GTX 1080 Ti was not included in the tests. KitGuru speculates that had it been in the list, it would have dominated the benchmark tests.

Nonetheless, the direct competition of the Radeon RX 64 is the GeForce GTX 1080, so it is a decent outcome for AMD as far as virtual reality gaming is concerned.
