Volkswagen is planning to double the production of the e-Golf starting March this year.

According to the press release posted by Volkswagen last month, "To meet higher demand for the e-Golf, production capacity at the Transparent Factory is to be increased. From March 2018, production is to increase step-by-step from 35 to 70 vehicles per day. The plant will switch from single-shift operation to 2-shift operation in the course of this change."

The e-Golf recently got some significant updates for the 2017 version. Battery capacity has now increased, meaning the car can go as far as 125 miles of EPA-estimated range, up from 24.2 in the old e-Golf.

The style and design of the car are also more sophisticated, while the motor now puts out 134 hp and 214 lb-ft of torque, compared to 115 hp and 199 lb-ft from the previous model. VW also boasts of the car's new speed performance, doing 0-to-60 in 9.6 seconds.

Many were quite confused that Volkswagen has decided to up the production of the e-Golf seeing that the international automotive company plans on releasing a new batch of longer-range electric cars on a much enhanced and newer platform in the coming years.

Sales of the car in the U.S. was also disappointing in 2017, from 3,494 units to just 3,191 in just the first 11 months of the year. However, demand for the vehicle in Germany has apparently increased, hence the reason for doubling its production.

Apparently, the reason for the increased demand in Germany is due to the recently introduced federal incentives and the diesel scrappage program. Volkswagen, along with other automakers, will offer significant rebates for diesel car owners if they replace them with more environment-friendly vehicles.

The environmental incentives can start from €2,000 to €10,000, with high chances that it can increase if buyers of the program purchase an electric car. Volkswagen stated that "about eight percent" of the buyers were spurred by the following program.

Pricing for the Volkswagen e-Golf starts at $31,315, which already includes the corresponding destination fees.
