It has been more than a year since "Tom Clancy's The Division" was released, but its popularity among players has not diminished quite yet. To make its loyal players happier, Ubisoft announced its biggest free update to the game ever.

The update is called 1.8 a.k.a "Resistance," and it contains a lot of new content that players can spend hours delving into. Gameplay changes, bug fixes, and maintenance were also included in the update.

Update 1.8 introduces a new area called "West Side Pier," where two new game modes can be played. The area is accessible to all agents, with the map stretching into two named zones — Piers North and Piers South. West Side Pier also has a new safe house/social hub called "Camp Clinton," and its purpose is similar to the Terminal.

The two new game modes are called "Resistance" and "Skirmish." In the Resistance mode, enemy factions are teaming up for the first time to try and overwhelm the players into submission. It's a player versus environment (PvE) mode where players must stay alive as possible as waves and waves of enemies approach.

Meanwhile, Skirmish mode is a classic player versus player (PvP) game mode where two teams with four players each gun each other out until the given time limit expires. The team with the most kills wins.

Update 1.8 also includes some new exotic weapons and gear that players can add to their arsenal. The Dark Zone also has a few changes in engagement rules, while checkpoints and hunter enemy types are added in The Underground.

Aside from the new game modes and gameplay changes, update 1.8 also encompasses a fair share of bug fixes and commendations/patches. To see the full update, click here.

In other news, those who haven't got a chance to try out "The Division" can participate in its full game, which is currently free to play until Dec. 10. The full game of the title, as well as its three expansions, are open to anyone, and any progress gained from the free weekend can be continued if players decide to buy the game.

"Tom Clancy's The Division" is currently out for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
