The third season of the highly popular manga-turned-anime television series "Tokyo Ghoul" still has no fixed release date. The second season of the show concluded back in March 2015, which means that fans of the series have now been waiting for more than a year.

New reports; however, have now suggested that fans may still need to wait a year more as the third season has apparently been placed in the back seat in favor of the live-action adaptation of the franchise, which is now under development.

For the past several months, the studio responsible for the anime had promised that it will be ramping up its production of the third season and that it will likely be the bloodiest episodes they have ever created. Studio Pierrot even revealed that some of the scenes will not be censored and that the gore that has been depicted in the manga will be shown in all its glory in the anime adaptation. Some of the more disturbing scenes; however, will be censored, but it will be kept to a minimum and only when necessary.

Despite the excitement over the announcements, new reports are coming in which suggests that the third season may have been intentionally delayed in order to make way for the production of the live-action movie adaptation of the franchise.

The film will be directed by renowned director, Kentarō Hagiwara. It will star Masataka Kubota as the franchise's protagonist Ken Kaneki and Fumika Shimizu as Touka Kirishima.

According to the reports, the third season of the anime will be aired right after the live-action film is released. The movie is scheduled to premiere during the summer of 2017.

As of the moment, fans who want to find out about what happened to Ken Kaneki and his alter ego Haise Sasaki can go ahead and follow his story in the manga, which has now actually transitioned to a new storyline.
