Tim Tebow Foundation cites 5 ways Timmy's Playrooms help children heal

The Tim Tebow Foundation (TTF) is known for its many charitable works which range from improving adoption means, giving children with special needs a much-needed boost in morale, as well as building hospitals that provide care for those in need.

One of the projects the foundation has undertaken is the setting up of Timmy's Playrooms in different children's hospitals all across the globe. In these playrooms, sick children can find a respite from their daily treatments and can have fun time playing and reading.

"It's not about building playrooms, but rather the lasting impact they have on every child who visits them," the TTF explains in its website. "We believe that a Timmy's Playroom can play an integral part in helping a child cope with an illness."

There are five ways that Timmy's Playrooms help children heal, and the first of these is through glorifying God. "No medical treatment can compare to the healing power of the Great Physician," the TTF says. "In Timmy's Playrooms, children are reminded that they are in the loving hands of the Lord through the verse Philippians 4:13, 'I can do all things through Him who strengthens me,' which is displayed prominently in every room."

Another way to help children heal is by offering them relaxation through play. When surrounded by toys, video games, and art, children are in an environment where they feel relaxed. Timmy's Playrooms are always customised with turf floors, wall wraps, custom lockers, and fun football décor that will definitely transport patients to a different world, the TTF says.

The third way that promotes healing is by allowing the children to be with their peers, giving them an opportunity to encourage one another. "When united with peers facing similar circumstances, many children find the strength to encourage one another even when they themselves might feel weak," the foundation explains. "Timmy's Playroom provides an atmosphere and place for children to connect and support each other."

The playroom also serves as a refuge for these children. By being immersed in an environment that is totally different from the hospital itself, the young patients and their families are able to find neutral ground and connect with others who are going through the same ordeal as themselves.

Lastly, a sense of community is created in Timmy's Playroom. "Children are given the chance to build community with hospital staff through casual interactions," the TTF says, adding that it is here where hospital staff get the opportunity to know their patients outside of the hospital walls.
