With both of Rockstar's flagship franchises being set in the same part of the world, fans have long speculated about a connection between "Grand Theft Auto" and "Red Dead Redemption."
Since the release of-of "Grand Theft Auto V" four years ago, players have been looking for solid evidence to prove that the game is somehow interlinked with "Red Dead Redemption." Interconnecting storylines, family trees, and businesses in the world of Rockstar have been the foundation of the rumors, but none of them were well founded enough to prove the theory.
However, a group of data miners called The Guru Team has recently found a note in the game code leading players on a scavenger hunt across Los Santos to look for a revolver from the upcoming "Red Dead Redemption 2." Apparently, they are the same group who solved the UFO mystery in "GTA V" years ago.
A few days after the discovery of the note, Rockstar released an official announcement addressing the speculations.
"Rumors of a lost relic from the frontier have begun to surface, and treasure awaits those bold enough to seek it." Read the announcement. "Keep an eye on your iFruit for a special in-game email containing the first clue, then follow the trail to unlock the Double-Action Revolver in 'GTA Online.'"
Once players acquire the gratis Double-Action Revolver, they will have the option to complete a Headshot Challenge for a GTA $250,000 reward and unlock it for future gun-slinging exploits in "Red Dead Redemption 2." Players will have to execute 50 headshot kills in free mode to complete the task.
Prior to the discovery of the note, "GTA V" players found an unmarked graved on the eastern coast of the Los Santos map. It sparked speculations that the grave belonged to the protagonist of the first "Red Dead Redemption," John Marston.
