Square Enix's "The World Ends With You" is one of the biggest titles for the Nintendo DS, and it became a cult classic. Nintendo has announced that the action-adventure game will have a remake to be released for the Nintendo Switch, subtitled "Final Remix."

"The World Ends With You Final Remix" is one of the several titles that will be released for Nintendo Switch this year. The titles were announced in a Nintendo Direct Mini video that was uploaded Jan. 11, 2018.

The game's story is set in modern-day Japan. It features the story of Neku, an antisocial boy that lost consciousness and suddenly woke up to find that he was involved in a game.

The game was set up to have quests to be completed and riddles to be solved, but there are monsters called "noise" and other adversaries in the game world, as well. What's worse, he was told that not reaching certain checkpoints can lead to "erasure," and some fights can lead to literal death.

He later finds out that there are other "players" like him that unwillingly participated. He soon he realizes that he will need to abandon his antisocial ways and team up with others to survive.

The original Nintendo DS release had innovative ways to utilize that console's touch screen, requiring players to conduct fights using the control pad and touch screen simultaneously. "The World Ends With You Final Remix" will reportedly retain these touch controls. However, Switch players can also use the Joy-Con if they want to experience the game differently.

In addition to these features, the Switch version will reportedly have a new scenario that will be exclusive to "The World Ends With You Final Remix."

The remake is expected to be released sometime this year. Other titles announced in the Nintendo Direct episode were Japanese role-playing game "Ys VIII," fighting game "SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy," and "Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze."
