Even up to today, there is still no concrete news regarding the possible release date for George R.R. Martin's latest installment in the "A Song of Ice and Fire" novel series, "The Winds of Winter."

Fans have, of course, been patiently waiting for the writer to complete the book itself, but now that it has been long overdue, some people are now demanding a valid explanation from the best-selling author as to why he still hasn't completed the novel.

Due to Martin's continued silence regarding the matter, rumors and speculations are now running rampant online which have all tried to find a possible reason for the book's delay.

Some reports have claimed that Martin may have lost his original manuscripts, which might be why the book's release continues to be non-existent. That notion, however, is quite unfeasible seeing as most of Martin's writing is done on computers which automatically save his progress.

Other reports have also speculated that Martin's health may be a possible culprit is his inability to finish the book. That report has not been confirmed yet as Martin is still able to attend his numerous engagements with people seeing him in good health.

Martin's publishers have thus far revealed several updates, but none of them are hinting at a possible release date. Martin's publisher in the U.K. — Harper Collins — had mentioned that they still had not finalized a publication date for the upcoming novel. His U.S. publisher — Penguin Random House — on the other hand, has yet to release a new statement regarding the book's status.

Martin himself reiterated that he was very much still working on the book and that it was one of his "top most priorities."

"Ten years from now, no one is going to care how quickly the books came out. The only thing that will matter, the only thing anyone will remember, is how good they were. That's my main concern, and always will be." Martin famously answered when asked about the book's release.
